The Ravens finally seem ready to take Isaiah Likely out of the garage. Last season, the former Coastal Carolina product reeled in 30 receptions for 411 yards and five touchdowns. Baltimore seems to be planning an even larger role for their secondary tight end heading into the 2024 NFL Season.
VIA Ryan Mink of the team’s website:
“It’s being a chess piece, being anywhere ‘Monk’ needs me to be in this offense – whether it’s in the slot, in-line, in the backfield, split out wide by myself,” Likely said. “The more you know, the more you can stay on the field.”
Mink also adds in that The Ravens used “12” personnel 11.1% of the time last year (27th most in the NFL). The league average was 19.2%. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken hinted that more of those packages are probably on the way this year.
“They watch film. They see it,” he said. “It’s an emphasis for them to try to see what we can do on the field together and harp on the little things so we can get on the field together and make the most of it.”
Zay Flowers has emerged as the number one target in this offense. Mark Andrews already has his role. Who is going to win the third guy role? It sure sounds like it could be Likely. The other options on the Ravens depth chart include Rashod Bateman, Nelson Agholor, and Tez Walker. It’s hard to find two fantasy-relevant tight ends in the same offense but that just might be the case this year. Especially when you factor in the increased 12 looks that might be what’s necessary with the Derrick Henry addition.
