Dear, Alex Tuch. Take notes from Rasmus Andersson. Now this is how you go poopy-pants mode.
Andersson, 28, previously said he wanted to stay with Calgary, but the team continued to shop him anyway. Now he’s changing his tune.
Andersson is taking control of his future and is trying to force his way to Vegas.
Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic (Don’t click the link. It’s by the scumbag publication. I’ll give you the snippet on everything you need to know) had the story:
“As of Monday, the team that tops [Andersson’s] list is the Vegas Golden Knights. Andersson appears to be a little picky about where he would sign… right now, it sounds like it’s Vegas for him. If Andersson agrees to an extension as part of a trade in the coming day, it’s likely with Vegas.”
“Vegas and Calgary have had numerous discussions over the past week, but still no trade has been made, as the Flames haven’t yet been excited about what the Golden Knights have to put on the table.”
“Notable Nicolas Hague was part of the earlier trade discussions between Vegas and Calgary, but he has since been traded to Nashville.”
“It makes sense that the Flames believe they should get more in a trade if Andersson is signed to an extension as part of it (he’s got one more year on his deal). However, Andersson appears to be a little picky about where he would sign, which is his right, as he would be forgoing a chance at unrestricted free agency 12 months from now.”
“Right now, it sounds like it’s Vegas for him.”
“My understanding is that the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings were among the teams with trade interest. Still, Andersson wasn’t ready to talk extension with those teams, so a trade didn’t materialize.”
The Flames may not have a choice but to cave. If Andersson will only extend with Vegas, a trade is probably inevitable. Does Calgary really want to bring Andersson back this year when everyone on the team knows it will be a distraction?
This is why tanking never works. Players want to win, and they respect the fact that Vegas is constantly going for it. Plus, Vegas offers a really unique opportunity in the sense that Andersson played with Noah Hanifin in Calgary and was his D partner. Pairing those two guys back up makes all the sense in the world.
By the way, Elliotte Friedman said on Spittin Chiclets today that Kelly McCrimmon will continue to try to get this deal done. If Andersson is determined to land with Vegas, a trade is probably inevitable.
“I did say on the pod that Vegas tried to take a shot at Rasmus Andersson and didn’t get him. I had people tell me they have not finished trying to do that,” Friedman said on Monday’s episode of Spittin’ Chiclets.
