The Saints 2024-25 NFL Season looks toast. The injuries are really piling up and New Orleans has lost five straight games after starting the season 2-0. After getting curb-stomped on Thursday Night Football against Denver, the Saints got more bad news on one of their best wide receivers. Rashid Shaheed will undergo season-ending meniscus surgery, which is obviously a huge blow to the offense.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport later added that Shaheed is going with the full repair rather than just the trim. The full repair is what will keep him out for the rest of the season.
Shaheed, 26, will be out for the next four-to-six months with this surgery. The former Weber State product broke out in a huge way this season. Shaheed posted 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns through a handful of games. He’s also one of the better return men in the league and had a touchdown return on a punt this season too.
Chris Olave is already hurt dealing with a concussion. Rookie out of Pitt Bub Means will now be asked to take on a larger role. In reality, I’m not sure it matters who the Saints look to replace Shaheed with. The offense looks broken since Derek Carr went down. Also, you’re never going to be a serious contender when Dennis Allen is your head coach. That guy is a total dope and New Orleans can’t turn the corner until they get a real head coach.
