Earl Simmons better known as DMX has been pronounced dead after a drug overdose. Just 50 years old the rapper leaves behind many of his children and beloved fans. After reports emerged early this week that DMX had suffered a drug overdose, the rapper experienced a heart attack and was placed on life support and reported dead today.
The 3 time Grammy nominated artist DMX also leaves behind a discography that has influenced millions. After the release of his infamous 6x platinum debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, DMX began to take off. From the late 90s to the early 2000s, DMX dropped 6 albums that all received the award for going platinum multiple times. These albums produced hit songs like, Ruff Ryders Anthem, Party Up, and X Gon’ Give It To Ya.
Whether it was DMX’s aggressive personality or his ability to bring energy to any situation, the legend of DMX must never be forgotten. Many fans remember the great songs released by DMX, but some may forget the talent he had when performing live. This greatness can be seen through his infamous WoodStock 99 performance.
Apart of a lineup containing some of the greatest rock bands ever, DMX took the stage and paved the way for street rap within the music festival world. With a crowd of over 400,000 people, DMX got up there and put on a performance that many believe to be the greatest rap performance of all time.
The outpour of emotion from those within the music scene can be seen all over social media. DMX’s record label Def Jam Recordings, have issued statements regarding the rappers death and paying respect to the legend.

Def Jam Recordings pays respect to late rapper DMX
The memory of DMX will never disappear. The platinum recording artist will live throughout rap music as long as it exists. The influence DMX had on many of todays greats can be seen and must not be overlooked. His music spoke to the idea of overcoming any struggle put in your way and that is something that must never be forgotten.
