The Rangers Somehow Believe They’re Getting Brady Tkachuk After Dumping Jacob Trouba

The Rangers dumped Jacob Trouba and it appears that they already have a target in mind to replace him on the cap sheet. The Rangers are either brilliant or super delusional because reports have surfaced that they seem pretty convinced that they’re getting Brady Tkachuk.

Brady Tkachuk is the “primary target” of the Rangers. Larry Brooks of The New York Post was the first to report the news. However, I must first warn you that the Brooks link is locked behind a paywall. Brooks is super locked into the Rangers and has great information. He’s worth reading but we here at Vendetta Sports Media don’t believe the access to information should be restricted to the public. You views will remain free here.

Tkachuk, 25, is under contract through the 2027-28 season, with an annual cap hit of $8.205 million. That’s the part I don’t understand. The Senators have no reason to trade him now. They don’t even have to do it after the following season. He’s under contract for multiple seasons. Why fork him over to the Rangers? That part makes no sense.

That right there is the crux of this whole issue. It’s one thing to get rid of Trouba. Who are they getting to fill that salary spot? It’s a big reason why I didn’t give New York a super high grade in the trade grades post. That part remains undetermined and let’s not pretend like the Rangers are better without him out of the lineup. Chris Drury is playing a dangerous game here.
