Raiders Expected To Start Connor Cook At Quarterback For Wildcard Round

Last Modified: June 2, 2024

The Oakland Raiders are preparing for their upcoming playoff game with the expectation that Connor Cook will start at quarterback. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Matt McGloin likely won’t be ready.

McGloin injured his shoulder during the week 17 finale against the Broncos. Since the injury, the Raiders have already brought up Garrett Gilbert from the practice squad. It looks like the Raiders will be without McGloin at least for the first round.

Connor Cook, Oakland’s 4th round pick, will now get the start. The Raiders third-string quarterback will be the first quarterback in NFL history to get his first career start in the playoffs. During the combine, I wrote a brief description of Cook’s chances in the NFL. I would be very surprised to see him put on a big performance during the playoff game. During brief action in week 17, Cook threw for 150 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

*An upcoming preview of all the playoff games will be released this weekend!
