New Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris still believes in the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft tight end Kyle Pitts and hopes to get the best out of him.
“If we can get this guy going, we all know what he could be,” Raheem Morris said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s the job of the coach, to find out what a player can be and go get the best out of him. Hopefully, myself, along with my staff, and all of our coaches, we can go and get the best version of Kyle Pitts because that will be really good for all of us.”
“He’s very excited about being healthy, and so are we,” Morris said. “Getting a healthy Kyle Pitts gives you a really dynamic player that we believe in a lot. Hence, the picking up of his option [and] letting him be a part of our immediate and hopefully our long-term future.”
The Falcons earlier this off-season added veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to the roster, which could lead to better production from the tight end.
Pitts was a Pro-Bowler in his rookie season with the Falcons but hasn’t been able to replicate those numbers the past couple of seasons.
Pitts had 1026 receiving yards and a touchdown his first year in the league, but hasn’t passed 700 yards since. But had a career-high in touchdowns last season with three TDs and 667 receiving yards.
Despite having Kirk Cousins as his quarterback next season, the Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr with the 8th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft class. Cousins was shocked and the vibe in Atlanta could be tense due to this and may mess with the Pitts’ production.
