Rafael Devers Expresses Desire To Stay With Red Sox Long Term

I’m not f*cking leaving! – Jordan Belfort AKA Rafael Devers.

Rafael Devers is starting the All-Star Game at the hot corner and has become the player I always envisioned he would be. The Sox are well represented in Colorado as they lead Major League Baseball with five representatives in the game. Devers and Xander Bogaerts make up the entire left side of the infield. That duo is as good as it gets.

The question is can Boston afford to keep that duo long term? The answer to that question appears to be yes with Xander Bogaerts. He already signed a contract extension where he gave the Red Sox a serious hometown discount. What about Raffy?

Good news for Sox fans, Devers made it pretty clear he’s going to follow suit and wants to stay with the club for the foreseeable future.

“I grew up a Boston fan. And I signed with Boston so I would like to stay,” Devers told MassLive.com through translator Marly Rivera of ESPN.

“I love Boston. It’s a beautiful city,” Devers said. “The best part is the weather right now. Not only that … the fans are awesome. It doesn’t matter what team we play. They always show up to support us at Fenway. So it’s pretty cool.”

Bogaerts and Devers are best friends on the team. On cue, when the cameras lock into the dugout, those two are always sitting next to each other. Devers signed with the Red Sox as an international free agent in 2013. Obviously, Devers could break the bank in free agency, but it sounds like he will take a discount as Bogaerts did as long as he doesn’t get low balled too badly.

You have to give the Red Sox this. Minus Mookie Betts, for some reason, players want to play in Boston. They’re willing to take discounts to do so. Matt Barnes just a few days ago signed a contract extension worth way less than market value.
