Punk vs. Austin; Another star suspended – AEW Weekly Rumor Roundup (11/21/22)
It is important to keep in mind that these are, in fact, rumored reports from around the professional wrestling business. Nothing in this article has been confirmed by AEW, WWE,or any direct parties.
On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported there may a lot of problems in booking CM Punk vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin. Contractually, who knows if Punk will be allowed to appear in WWE due to his contract status with AEW. Besides that fact, Punk has done little to nothing to show he would be interested in making a return to the company.
The Wrestling Observer recently reported that AEW star Andrade El Idolo may have been suspended by AEW chairman, Tony Khan. The suspension would not come as a surprise to many, as Andrade was recently in headlines for a backstage altercation with fellow AEW star, Sammy Guevara.
Fightful Select recently stated that AEW star Ruby Soho was contacted by Women of Wrestling before signing with the former. Soho, formerly known as Ruby Riott, was released by WWE in 2021. The same report suggested they also reached out to the former WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champions, The IIconics. They currently hold the IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team Champions as The IInspiration.
Fight Select has reported that KC Navarro was recently in attendance at AEW Rampage. Navarro is reported to have a scheduled tryout with WWE in the near future. If both of these reports are true, it looks like Khan is trying to grab him for AEW before Triple H can for WWE.
In the recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer noted the relationship between Punk and Khan has only worsened of late. Colt Cabana recently made his return to AEW television. Many could have possibly seen this as a shot at Punk because of their known long history.
According to Meltzer via F4WOnline, the finish at AEW Full gear with William Regal turning on Jon Moxley was Khan’s idea. Apparently, other finishes were discussed as possibilities leading up to the event. As we can tell by the way it played out, Khan was very passionate about it going down the way he had envisioned.
