Pickens Says He Didn’t Know About Eye Black Rule

George Pickens talked to the media for the first time since the Steelers lost to the Cowboys 20-17 on Sunday Night Football. During that game, he had on black eye, which read “open fucking always.” In addition to this, he was also involved in a situation with Dallas DB Jourdan Lewis. After the final play of the game, Lewis came up to Pickens and looked to be talking some shit. In response, George grabbed Lewis by the face mask and yanked him to the ground.

Per ESPN, when asked if he (Pickens) was aware of the NFL uniform policy, he said,” Never seen it before…have you seen it before?” A reporter then pointed out that his teammate Cam Heyward was fined for having his deceased father’s name on his eye black back in 2015. Pickens responded, “Years ago? When I wasn’t in the league? So, nah.”

For those unaware of the specifics of the league’s uniform policy, essentially, it prohibits any kind of unapproved words or messages on players during games. The NFL will likely investigate this violation and fine Pickens.

Pickens said that “Nothing” happened after the game with Jourdan Lewis. If I was a betting man, I’d say Pickens will get fined for that as well. It ended up being a very expensive night for George, and he only has himself to blame.

Low Snap Count

Pickens was also asked about the Steelers snap-management strategy. George only played 34 snaps, which was just 59% of the offensive plays during Sunday’s game. This was a career low in that category for him. When questioned about this, he said, “I think it was part of the game plan. That was pretty much it.” A reporter also wanted to know what Pickens could do to increase his playing time, he responded, “It’s not on me…it’s all up to Art.”
