Bradley Beal’s agent reveals client waiving no-trade clause has not been discussed

Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal has been the name most recently linked to the Jimmy Butler sweepstakes after it was reported Tuesday that the Suns would be the only team willing to pay Butler what he wants.

Both Miami and Phoenix are apron teams, meaning they cannot take back more salary than they trade out–meaning they would need at least one other team to help facilitate any deal. Though the biggest caveat is that Beal owns a no-trade clause, allowing him to nix any multi-team deal involving him.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Beal’s agent Mark Bartelstein revealed that there hasn’t been any discussion about waiving his no-trade.

“There have been no discussions about trades with the Suns or any other team,” Bartelstein said, according to Windhorst. “Bradley’s total focus is on helping the Suns turn things around.

Beal is fully aware that he holds all the power if it ultimately comes down to Butler forcing his way to Phoenix ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Windhorst mentions that Beal would never forego his NTC, either, even if he was moved to multiple different destinations over the course of his contract.

Bartelstein and Beal not being approached likely means the Heat haven’t received an enticing enough offer from a third party where all sides have agreed upon it. In fact, Windhorst reported Tuesday that the offers they have gotten “stink,” meaning no trade is currently in sight involving the disgruntled Butler.

There are only a select few teams that Beal would reportedly waive his no-trade clause for, hypothetically. But we won’t get a greater gasp at that until his camp is approached about it … which doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon.
