The PGA Tour and LIV Golf are officially burying the hatchet. The world’s top two golf flights are now set to be merging into one. After months of tension and bickering, a new era of professional golf is upon us. CNBC was one of many outlets to announce the groundbreaking news:
BREAKING: PGA Tour agrees to merge with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf https://t.co/Q6aWvAc3A7

The sweeping deal would also void any litigation between the two entities, as they were on the verge of beginning antitrust lawsuits against one another. Furthermore, all golfers suspended by the Tour for leaving to LIV are now able to be reinstated. Started by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the upstart golf flight turned many heads after they offered millions of dollars for many of the PGA’s top golfers to defect and join LIV. Many were outraged by the fact that a number of the top American golfers left without question to LIV. The main reason was sympathizing with the country where 15 of the 19 terrorists responsible for the 9/11 attacks were born.
However, all of that appears a thing of the past. One can also assume that Brooks Koepka’s win in the PGA Championship may have something to do with the deal. But, it looks more and more like the best of both worlds for both tours. They will now combine proper compensation for golfers and enhanced viewership following LIV’s early struggles. Unsurprisingly, the PIF is prepared to inject tremendous amounts of money into the new partnership. In any event, this is a historic day for golf.
There are still a tremendous amount of details that need ironing out. Things like competitions and their formats, venues, pay structures, and more are still question marks. However, this has the potential of changing golf in all the right ways. It may take a while for their ratings to actually compete with things like the NBA and NFL, but this is certainly a start.
Professional golf will never be the same. Once former adversaries, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will now merge into one massive golfing enterprise. Get your popcorn ready!
