Peyton Bowen Flips Commitment From Notre Dame to Oregon

Oregon has flipped five-star safety Peyton Bowen from Notre Dame. Bowen is ranked No. 14 in the 2023 247 Sports composite rankings.

Bowen has been in the midst of a wild recruitment. He originally committed to Notre Dame on Jan. 1, 2022, but his recruitment was clearly wide open. After committing to Notre Dame, Bowen visited Texas A&M, Alabama, and Oklahoma.

The recruitment for Bowen ended up coming down to Oregon, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. As the early signing period approached the signs looked good for Oklahoma. Ultimately, Oregon was able to pull off a last-second comeback to land Bowen.

Bowen played high school football at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. In high school, he displayed tremendous athleticism and excelled in track. Bowen projects as a high safety with outstanding ball skills and a ton of range. He can also add production as a return man if Oregon opts to utilize him in that way. Bowen currently sits as the No. 2 ranked safety in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Bowen is the third five-star in Oregon’s 2023 recruiting class. The others are wide receiver Jurrion Dickey and edge Matayo Uiagalelei.

Oregon is now up to 26 commitments in its 2023 recruiting class and sits at 9th in the 247 Sports Composite team rankings.

Bowen’s decommitment will hit Notre Dame hard as he was the sole five-star in Notre Dame’s 2023 class. Thankfully for the Fighting Irish, they have four other defensive backs that have signed their letter of intent. This is led by four-star corners Christian Gray and Micah Bell, but they also have three star-safties Adon Shuler and Ben Minich.

Despite losing Bowen, Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting classes still holds a top-ten spot in team rankings.
