Paul Millsap Is Washed Up

With my cohost, Garrett Burroughs, on the ChicksTape Basketball Podcast being a huge Denver Nuggets fan, I’ve ended up keeping up with the Nuggets regularly. Not that I am a Nuggets fan or anything, but it just leads to conversations between us on his team. That’s why we both kind of cringed when Paul Millsap’s team option worth 30 million was picked up. We’ve both felt that that 30 million could have been spent better elsewhere. Although Paul Millsap has been a consistently decent player, his production has declined recently. All in all, he didn’t deserve 30 million.

Paul Millsap Stats

His stats show it too. He is currently averaging 11.9 PPG on 46.8% shooting. That ranks currently 4th on the team for scoring. He is averaging 5.8 RPG, which ranks 3rd on the Nuggets. Millsap is tied for first on blocks though, but only at .7 BPG. He also only plays 25 minutes a game, so he isn’t even averaging starter minutes. That isn’t exactly ideal for the player that has the biggest contract amount.

If the Nuggets do not win the championship, I blame the Nuggets front office themselves and Paul Millsap. There was no reason to bring back Paul Millsap for that much money. Sure, given the Nuggets success last year, they wanted to bring back Millsap to make another push for a championship. However, one has to wonder if 30 million would have been better spent elsewhere. Paul Millsap might’ve re-signed for less and the Nuggets could even add more depth. Or if Paul Millsap walked, you have 30 million to spend on one player better than Millsap, or 2-3 players that could have been signed for that much. I didn’t like the move in the first place. Good thing Millsap’s contract expires this year, the worst thing the Nuggets can do is keep Paul Millsap on any contract similar to this one.
