The Ravens are stuck with Joe Flacco for the foreseeable future. The team’s backup Ryan Mallet is set to hit free agency leaving the team uneasy in regards to the quarterback position. Ravens G.M. Ozzie Newsome made it clear the Ravens need another quarterback.
“You saw over the weekend what happens to teams when the No. 1 quarterback gets hurt,” Newsome said last week, via the team’s official website, “and you are trying to win a playoff game.”
“You have to have two quality quarterbacks in this league to be successful year-in and year-out,” Newsome added. “We realize that Joe is one play away from being injured. We have seen that.”
Newsome was referencing the Dolphins and Raiders inability to play well without their starting quarterback. It also makes sense to replicate the formula the Cowboys did when they found Dak Prescott in the 4th round despite already having Tony Romo. It appears like teams around the NFL will be drafting quarterbacks with more regularity in the future. The Giants have also made it clear that they are looking for Eli’s successor as well. One name to keep in mind is Cal quarterback Davis Webb who has a bright future.
