Ovechkin Calls McDavid An Alien

Connor McDavid is not from this planet. He’s the biggest freak show in any sport and I’m not sure it’s arguable. McDavid is a total alien and even the future NHL goal scoring record agrees. Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin says McDavid is not from this planet. About the biggest compliment one can get when it comes to their hockey ability.

“He’s from a different planet,” Ovechkin told Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun from All-Star Weekend in Florida. “How he plays the game. How he controls the puck. He controls his speed. He’s very fun to watch.

“It’s not one player and one year. He’s consistently doing it. Every year. It’s cool to see. It’s great for us. It’s great for fans. It’s great for the kids.”

I’m going to share this clip again just because I don’t think it can be topped. Ovechkin is right about McDavid. He’s not from this planet.

McDavid is just at another level right now. The Oilers captain is averaging 1.84 points per game this season and well on pace to hit the 150 point mark. That would be the most in a season since Mario Lemieux had 161 in 1995-96. The fact that McDavid is even in that conversation shows just how special he is. Imagine if the Oilers had better wing help too?

Leon Draisaitl Does Not Get Enough Love

The points are nice and all but right now McDavid is focused on trying to win the Cup for the Oilers.

“That’s the ultimate goal,” McDavid said. “That’s what we’re building towards. I haven’t really put much thought into (records and numbers). Winning, that’s the focus.”
