Take the following information with a grain of salt. People are fooled by offseason training hype all the time. With that said, I’m not sure this is false hype. There’s a chance this is very, very real. Again, proceed with caution… but it appears that rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden II is putting on a show at Chargers camp.
The former Syracuse product has gotten strong praise from Justin Herbert, Greg Roman, and head coach Jim Harbaugh. Roman, the Chargers’ offensive coordinator, claims Gadsden will likely climb the pecking order within the offense rather quickly.
“Young guy, really afforded himself well,” Chargers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman said of Gadsden on Wednesday. “Very mature, I really think he’s going to ascend quickly.
“He’s flashing some really good things and as any rookie, he’s learning a lot along the way,” Roman added.
Gadsden, 21, was a favorite of mine during the draft process. He put on a damn clinic at the East-West Shrine event. The receiving part of his game isn’t a question. It’s a matter of whether he can be a real tight end. All of this praise should probably be taken seriously.
Again, I don’t think this is false hype. Just watch the way Harbaugh is speaking about the player. It sure feels like the Chargers have something real here. It’s absolutely something to watch for heading into the preseason.
By the way… I have Gadsden as TE2 in my rookie rankings. I understand that will surprise people, but I’m also not sure it’s wrong either…
