2025 was supposed to be the year of Evan Stewart. With Tez Johnson off to the NFL, Stewart was set to finally occupy the slot in the Dante Moore high powered Oregon offense. Except that doesn’t look like it’s going to be the case. The former five star wide receiver during the 2022 cycle out of Frisco, Texas, suffered a serious injury that likely costs him the upcoming season.
Pete Nakos of On3 was the first to report the news:
“Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart has suffered a significant injury, sources tell On3’s Pete Nakos. He was preparing for his second season with the Ducks after transferring from Texas A&M.”
“Stewart is believed to have torn his patellar tendon this week, multiple sources tell On3. Further tests are ongoing. The recovery time ranges from 3 to 12 months, depending on the severity of the injury.”
Stewart, 21, was about to head into his second season with Oregon after transferring in from Texas A&M. Last season, he notched 48 receptions for 613 yards and five scores. Five-star receiver Dakorien Moore may have to play an even larger role in the offense than originally anticipated heading into his first collegiate season.
As for Stewart, it remains to be seen what happens here. Technically, if he plays four games or fewer this year, he could medically redshirt and stay in school for another season. It’s also possible he says screw it and ends up entering the NFL Draft anyway. TBD on that part.
