The 2025 College Football season is still a ways away, but there have been plenty of commitments in the meantime to hold fans over. Oregon just landed its first wide receiver in the 2026 recruiting class. This is good news for the Ducks’ wide receiver room after the disappointing injury news of WR Evan Stewart. Oregon has had a wide receiver drafted in the last two NFL drafts, and recruit Messiah Hampton will hopefully be on that same trajectory.
Hampton is a 6-foot-1-inch, 180-pound wide receiver from Rochester, New York. According to 247 Sports, the four-star recruit is the number one recruit in New York and the 29th-ranked wide receiver in the country.
He had offers from Syracuse, Miami, and Penn State. Oregon does not typically recruit in New York so this is a big signing for the Ducks. Ross Douglas is now an Oregon position coach who heavily recruited Hampton while Douglas was the WR coach at Syracuse. This connection along with the glamour of Oregon helped aid Hampton’s decision.
Also, Hampton explained some other reasons why he chose to commit to Oregon.
“I would say the No. 1 thing for me is development, What coach, do I believe, could develop my skill set to the highest level.” – Messiah Hampton
“Scheme is definitely important… It’s seeing where I could fit in the offense.” – Messiah Hampton
Head coach Dan Lanning should be happy with landing this talented recruit and getting his first 2026 wide receiver. The Ducks’ 2026 recruiting class is not in the top 20 among colleges right now but Messiah Hampton’s commitment is a huge boost to the Oregon class.
