We had a feeling this was coming. Bones Hyland was very much involved in trade rumors leading up to the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline. It just so happened the rumors were much more than smoke. Denver didn’t even get a good return either showing their willingness to just dump Bones. The Nuggets are trading Bones to the LA Clippers for two second round picks.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report the news:
For the life of me, this trade still doesn’t make sense. I’m just not sure it makes sense on any level. Earlier in the day, Denver gave up three second round picks for Thomas Bryant. The Nuggets only got two back in this Bones trade. Do they really believe Bryant has more value than Bones? Do they know they picked Bones in the first round? Do they know the Lakers got Bryant for a vet minimum this offseason?
I’m starting to think that maybe Calvin Booth is overwhelmed… Maybe the Nuggets somehow miss Tim Connelly. Well, maybe not. Connelly also pulled off the gross Rudy Gobert trade for Minnesota sooo nevermind.
Hyland, 22, is starting to earn that sharpshooter reputation. Denver will miss his shot making ability. The former VCU product is connecting on roughly 38% of his 3-point attempts. The Clippers are also on the verge of acquiring Eric Gordon so they really are upgrading their long range shot making this deadline. Overall, to get Bones for two middle second rounders is solid business by Jerry West and co.
