Noah Dobson Reveals Outrageous Asking Price For Extension

Noah Dobson is in line for an extension as an RFA. However, 2024-25 was a down year for him and the Islanders as a whole. After a career year the previous season, the defenseman took a step back and did not leap forward as many expected he would.

Even so, he is young and right-handed so teams around the league will absolutely fawn over him. It’s clear that him and his agent recognize that. If you look back on this website you can see that my feeling on him change like the seasons.

Earlier today, Frank Seravalli did a rundown video as he usually does. He did some Islanders topics, and revealed the outrageous number Dobson has in his head for an AAV:

If he was a free agent last summer, then maybe he would have a case. 60 assists, 70 points, and a plus-12 rating while playing over 24 minutes a night. However, he definitely wants to wipe last season from his memory. His scoring plummeted to 39 points, his plus/minus sank to minus-16, and he routinely made errors in his own end that tormented Islanders fans. Simply put, where in the world is his head? Does he deserve to be paid more than Cale Makar? Adam Fox? Zach Werenski?

$11 million would tie him with Drew Doughty and Rasmus Dahlin as the second highest-paid defenseman in the NHL. If there is a team that’s willing to do it, I sure hope Mathieu Darche is on the phone with them. Get as much as you can for him in a trade, or even allow an offer sheet and get a healthy stash of draft picks in return. Darche would waste any goodwill or optimism from the fanbase if he gave him $11 or even $10.5 million a season.

Easy Problem, Easy Solution:

In case you may have missed it, the Islanders miraculously won the draft lottery. It just so happens that the consensus No. 1 pick is a guy named Matthew Schaefer. A defenseman that can skate, defend and move the puck. Why not turn the card in for the best player on draft night and give him the reins to be their eventual #1 on D?

Darche can retool the blue line and build a younger unit with higher upside. All while gaining important assets that can be used in trades or future drafts. I get there’s plenty of politics that go on in the NHL level but the Islanders new POHO should not get pushed around here by agents or the media.

Dobson is nowhere near an $11 million player. Nor should he think he is. However, if him and the Islanders cannot agree on a smaller number for an extension, they should move on.
