The Nintendo Wii Should Be Updated and Rereleased

The Nintendo Wii was absolutely elite. I would honestly argue that it still is, but there’s no denying that it was a top-tier console when it was released in 2006. There’s a reason Sony and Microsoft released their own motion-control rip-offs with the PlayStation Move and the Xbox Kinect. For a brief period of time, the Wii ran the world.

Eventually, the PlayStation and Xbox phased out the Wii, which wasn’t really a console designed to be updated and improved upon. This was evident when the WiiU completely flopped and became a commercial disaster. However, I think the Wii should have had more staying power than it did. There’s still a massive community of people that still love playing it, developing mods for it, and streaming games from it.

The Wii Had Some Awesome Titles

Nintendo had some awesome games for the Wii. Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Sports Resort were all phenomenal. Mario Kart Wii, Mario Super Sluggers, Super Mario Galaxy, and the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series are some of the most fun games I’ve ever played, and also some of the best Mario games ever created. Throw in LEGO Star Wars, FIFA, and Just Dance – yeah, the Wii was awesome.

Nintendo really needs to consider giving the Wii an update and rerelease. The Nintendo Switch is perfectly fine, but I don’t think people have the same love for the Switch that they did for the Wii. If Nintendo rereleased the Wii with better online capabilities and other updates to modernize the system, I think it would take off. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. Let’s get the Wii back.
