Nico Collins Compared To Texans’ Legend By C.J. Stroud

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins had a breakout year last season. After back-to-back seasons not reaching 40 receptions or 500 yards, Collins exploded on the scene for 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns–largely thanks to the stellar play of the Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.

Collins quickly became Stroud’s favorite target last season, and even with the newly acquired Stefon Diggs in the mix, it sounds like the Stroud-Collins duo isn’t going anywhere.

When speaking to the media this week from the Texans’ minicamp, Stroud sang the praises of Nico Collins, comparing him to a Houston Texans legend in Andre Johnson.

Full quote via NFL.com:

“[Collins is] a generational talent. He’s like our age’s Andre Johnson, in my opinion,” Stroud said, via team transcripts. “Just how fast he is, how he gets in and out of his braces, releases, how strong he is. I think last year was just a preview of what’s to come for him.”

“I think we have like five No. 1s, so that’s kind of cool to have. I’ve had that before in college and now I have it again. It’s going to be fun,” Stroud said. “Nico, he loves to see everybody else eat, too. His love for his brothers hasn’t changed. It’s a special feeling to see somebody who deserves to get paid and get what they deserve. I’m just really proud of him.”

Nico Collins being compared to Andre Johnson is a huge compliment. Johnson is the greatest receiver in that franchise’s history, and being compared to him as he enters his fourth NFL season shows how much C.J. Stroud trusts Collins.

It will be interesting to see how the stats compare to last season with Diggs in the mix, but if he produces at the same level or even better than last season, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see Houston towards the top of the AFC.
