Deion Sanders is off to a hot start at Colorado and has his fair share of haters already. Coach Prime is 3-0 during his inaugural season with the Buffaloes thus far. However, with Oregon and USC next up on the schedule, things are going to get a lot more difficult. Regardless of how the rest of the season goes for Coach Prime, he has a fan in Nick Saban.
The Alabama head coach made it clear that he has a ton of respect for Coach Prime.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Deion Sanders,” Saban said Wednesday. “First, he’s a great person and he’s done a great job of marketing the program to create a lot of national interest. I see their team playing well on the field. They play with discipline, they do a good job of executing, they’ve been able to score points, playing decent on defense. All those things, to me, are indicators he’s a really good coach.
“I’ve always thought that and he’s always been successful whether it was Jackson State, high school or now at Colorado. His teams have always been well-coached.”
This really shouldn’t be viewed as surprising. If Saban hated Deion, they probably wouldn’t record those insurance commercials together. The same can be said for Deion who made it clear in a recent 60 minutes interview that he admires Saban as well.
“I’ll tell you this, I love and adore and I respect and every time I do a commercial with Coach Saban, it’s a gift,” Sanders said. “Just sitting in his presence and hearing him and throwing something else out there so I can hear his viewpoint on it because he’s forgotten more things that I may ever accomplish.
“So I’m a student looking up to this wonderful teacher saying, ‘just throw me a crumb of what you know.’”
Before I wrap up, shameless plus, I know, but please read my latest column on Saban. The views are skyrocketing on it. Saban has his own problems at Alabama right now and we all know why.
