For the first time in his career, Nick Chubb will play for someone other than the Cleveland Browns. I understand that Chubb has taken a beating in terms of the injury department, but transferring over to a team that has a chance to win just might be exactly what he’s missing.
The former Georgia product will sign a contract with the Houston Texans in a role that will likely feature him as the primary backup behind Joe Mixon.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks, and Dare Ogunbowale are the other backs on the roster prior to the signing. Mixon’s role is pretty locked in. Pierce is basically a special teams guy at this stage. Ogunbowale is a passing game specialist and nothing more. Maybe I’m reaching here, but if you connect the dots, this goes back to Marks. Everything I’ve read in terms of camp reports indicates that Marks hasn’t really impressed the Texans brass. If that’s actually true, it’s not a surprise that it would spark a signing like this.
Chubb, 29, has only played 10 games over the past two seasons. Still, when healthy, Chubb has proven he’s one of the most efficient running backs in NFL history. If he’s even remotely close to the same guy, this will go down as a steal for Houston. It’s a matter of how many touchdowns he’s going to steal away from Mixon this season.
