I talked a bit about this not too long ago but the disrespect Nick Chubb is facing right now is totally out of control. However, we also know that Chubb is coming off a serious injury. That part can’t be ignored and certainly, fantasy football managers will have a decision to make.
Can fantasy managers actually trust Chubb’s injury comeback with the Browns?
With fantasy, we know everything is based on rankings. Expectations matter. Every player is always a case-by-case basis purely dependent on how much each player costs. Every league is different but Chubb, who is arguably the best running back in football, can’t be found in any rankings list inside the top 25 at the running back position.
If that’s the case… he’s a major buy.
You don’t have to trust my opinion. That’s for you to decide. It’s your fantasy team. What I will say is that we defeated Matthew Berry in the most humiliating way possible so you can decide for yourself if you should trust me as the evaluator. I’ve also been saying for years that Chubb is better than Barkley (statistically speaking it can’t be argued) but that’s a different story for another day.
The narrative is the narrative and right now the fantasy community is leaving Chubb for dead. Dopey Berry has Chubb ranked RB35 heading into the season. If that’s going to be the price, I’m in. It’s really as simple as that.
A: This isn’t the first time Chubb has faced adversity from a major lower-body injury. It happened in college too and teams drafted Chubb way too low because of it. Let’s not make that same mistake this time. Chubb, 28, should still be very much in his prime.
B: The Browns don’t seem overly concerned about Chubb’s comeback this time around. If they were, they would have drafted a running back. They didn’t. It’s just Jerome Ford again as the backup. Nyheim Hines, D’Onta Foreman, and Pierre Strong are also there. Foreman makes the most as a $2 million cap hit. If the Browns front office was really worried about Chubb, wouldn’t they have picked someone in this draft? Instead, it’s going to be Ford again as the backup and Foreman as the cheap insurance policy.
C: Who knows on the whole timetable to Chubb? The Browns back spoke a lot about the injury. It seems like he’s encouraged where he’s at and is progressing nicely. He’s not totally practicing yet but he’s off to the side and looks to be moving around well. Point being, all indications are that he’s going to be ready to go this year.
D: Chubb has been in the NFL for six years. We’re talking about a player that has quite literally never finished a season with less than a 5.0 yard per carry average. Even if he comes back at 80%, that’s still a top 20 running back no question.
If you don’t want your Nick Chubb stock in fantasy, give it to me. I’ll take it. I’m not a doctor but if there is anybody who is going to come back from this injury, it’s the freak that squats a literal train.
