The UFL has some weird rule changes that are atypical of what we’re used to seeing at the NFL level. Before I begin, if you want to see the full list of rules from the UFL, you can see those here.
Some of the rule changes are wack but they were cooking with the pass interference rule.
College football is a 15 yard penalty regardless.
NFL is a spot foul.
The UFL has decided they’re going to create a magical baby between the two:
Defensive Pass Interference
“Defensive pass interference will result in a 15-yard penalty or a spot foul if the foul occurred less than 15 yards downfield. Intentional defensive pass interference will result in a spot foul if it is beyond 15 yards downfield.”
This rule leaves a little bit more for interpretation but this is the way to go. A ticky tack call is far different than when a cornerback intentionally tackles a guy. Both ways are called the same at the NFL level and college football. The UFL is really onto something.
The NFL needs to steal this rule ASAP. Not every PI needs to be a spot foul and not everyone needs to be an automatic 15 yards. This is just a perfect blend.
Feel free to let me know how you feel. To me, this just makes too much sense to not happen. Not saying the NFL needs to copy every rule but this one is too good to not use.
Oh, and can we put a chip in the ball already so we can stop this madness of the chain gang?
