The New York Knicks are in quite the pickle with Julius Randle
Julius Randle has proved to the league that he can be a force to be reckoned with, but only at certain times. After his abysmal Game 6 performance against the Miami Heat in the second round, Randle is becoming almost a joke to the Knicks. New York is now in a pickle with their superstar. Do they trade him this offseason or keep him in hopes of playoff improvement?
According to Clutch Points, an anonymous NBA General Manager has given the Knicks quite the reality check with their big man. The GM said that Randle won’t be on the move, at least for now.
“They are not in position to trade Randle because there’s no way to get value for him,” the executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports. “They have found a way to get him to be really productive with what they do. But that does not really translate to a lot of other teams. So that is always going to work against them if they were to move him. But they have not had those conversations in a long time, and he has three years left on the contract (the third year is a player option) so it is something where he is not going anywhere for a while.”
As of right now, Randle still remains under contract with the Knicks for at least two more seasons with a $30.3 million player option in 2025-26. Randle is earning a hefty $28.2 million this season, and will probably ask for a pay raise before the start of the 2026 NBA season.
For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the Knicks made a second-round appearance. Much of this is thanks to star point guard Jalen Brunson and Randle.
But, as said before, the Knicks are in a hard space with Randle. He frankly has no value in the trade market right now, and no team will be looking to take on his contract at his skill set.
