Jets release Davante Adams

Mere weeks after deciding to part ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets have decided to cut wide receiver Davante Adams, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero first reported Tuesday.

As a result, the Jets will be saving a ton of money by releasing the veteran wideout who just turned 33-years-old in December.

According to Over The Cap, Adams was due a $38.3 million cap hit–including a base salary of $35.6 million–in both 2025 and 2026, an untenable salary for a receiver who’s on the decline. The Jets will save nearly $30 million in 2025 and $32 million in 2026 by cutting him pre-June 1.

After Rodgers’ exit, the likelihood that Adams had played his last snaps in The Big Apple skyrocketed. No team would’ve given New York any sort of value for that contract, so it was wise to cut him before the new league year starts on March 12.

Adams hauled in 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns last season, including 67 catches for 854 yards and seven scores in 11 games with the Jets.

New York acquired him from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a conditional third-rounder last October. The conditional third could’ve turned into a second any one of several potential qualifications (makes All-Pro, makes AFC Title/Super Bowl) were met. They were not.

This was his most memorable play with the Jets, who finished 5-12, their ninth-straight season finishing at least two games below .500.

Jokes aside, while the three-time All-Pro is in the latter stages of his career, there still may be room for him as a WR3/4 at an inexpensive cost. Where do you think he should go? Let us know in the comments!
