New York Giants Sign Cole Beasley

The New York Giants have added yet another receiver to their offense, this time veteran journeyman Cole Beasley.

Beasley, 34, will enter his 11th career season in the league, his first as a Giant. Beasley was an undrafted free agent out of SMU in 2012. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys and quickly made an impact, catching 52 passes for 593 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie.

His connection with quarterback Tony Romo was a strong one. Beasley continued to be a productive player for the Cowboys over the next five seasons, catching 325 passes for 3,410 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Beasley eventually left the Cowboys in free agency in 2019 and signed with the Buffalo Bills. In Buffalo, he had a career renaissance. That year, he caught 67 passes for 825 yards and four touchdowns while being a key contributor to the Bills’ playoff run, catching 11 passes for 119 yards in two playoff games. In 2020, Beasley had another solid year, making the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career.

The ginger-headed wideout signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. However, he retired from the NFL after just four games. However, Beasley will make his return, this time playing for the Giants.

This makes a crowded receiving room for New York, especially at the slot receiver position. The Giants are making it clear that no one’s roster spot is safe in that group. Isaiah Hodgins and Sterling Shephard are locked in to make the team, alongside rookie Jalin Hyatt and newly-signed Darius Slayton and Parris Campbell.

Where the competition grows is around names like Beasley, Jamison Crowder, and Wan’Dale Robinson. New York also signed Jeff Smith this offseason.

Expect a few of these guys to play special teams roles. For Beasley, he’ll make the most of his role as a veteran presence in a young offense with big aspirations.
