The New Baltimore Orioles Owners Might Be Exactly What the Fanbase Needed

The Baltimore Orioles are under new management after a group led by David Rubenstein bought the club back in January for $1.725 billion. That new leadership made a great first impression to open the 2024 MLB Season. Fans at Pickles Pub, a bar near Camden Yards, were treated to a beer by Mike Arougheti and other members of the ownership group.

This is awesome. It’s the kind of thing that is really good for sports. If every sports team was owned by actual fans instead of a stuffy old guys who view the team as just another asset in their portfolio (looking at you Red Sox), we would be in such a good place.

Bright Future in Baltimore

In a statement released after the sale in January, Rubenstein had this to say:

“To own the Orioles is a great civic duty. I want the Baltimore community and Orioles fans everywhere to know that we will work our hardest to deliver for you with professionalism, integrity, excellence, and a fierce desire to win games. I thank John Angelos and his family for all they have done to bring us to this point. John led a dramatic overhaul of the team’s management, roster, recruitment strategy and farm system in recent years. Our job is to build on these accomplishments to advance a world-class professional sports agenda — with eyes on returning a World Series trophy to Baltimore.”

The Orioles already have a ton of organizational infrastructure in place. Young stars in Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman bat at the top of the order. A bonafide ace in Corbin Burnes is pitching every fifth day. Jackson Holliday headlines one of the best farm systems in baseball. The O’s won their first game of the season 11-3 over the Angels and are a legitimate threat to win the AL East. Given their youth and new ownership, there’s a bright future ahead in Baltimore.
