Maybe it’s a trend that’s going to stick around, maybe there’s some under-the-table conversations happening between player and school, maybe it’s neither and some players just know where they want to go. What I am talking about is players hitting the transfer portal for a cup of coffee before transferring out. We saw it yesterday when Luke Kromenhoek took one visit and landed at that school. Well, the same can be said for Nebraska EDGE James Williams.
On3.com is reporting that after taking one school visit, Williams will be transferring to Florida State. The news came in last night after his school visit had wrapped up. It sounds like what really swung Williams in favor of the Seminoles was his relationship with newly hired defensive line coach Terrance Knighton. That’s right, the former NFL fan favorite nicknamed “Pot Roast” was formerly working with Williams at Nebraska before being hired by Florida State earlier this month.
Last season, James Williams logged 188 snaps, finishing with 14 total tackles, 5.5 for loss, and five sacks to his name. Knighton had dubbed Williams “Sackman”. Williams has been with the Cornhuskers program since 2023, but after only playing in four games his freshman season, he took a redshirt year to preserve his eligibility.
James Williams is a huge get for Florida State. This team was decimated with injuries and struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball, finishing 91st in opponents points per game, 83rd in yards allowed, 99th in rushing per attempt, and 111th in rush yards allowed per game. Williams has the potential to really blossom with his new squad and could bring a ton of energy to this defensive line unit.
