NBA suspends Ja Morant for 25 Games

After being suspended by his own team, Adam Silver and the NBA have suspended Memphis Grizzlies superstar point guard Ja Morant for 25 games. Shams Charania of The Athletic first reported Friday.

Morant has been the question mark around the league for the past few weeks. Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner, has been on almost a tour of podcasts and shows talking about Morant’s suspension, even after saying previously he wouldn’t want Morant’s suspension to eat up the NBA Finals and taking attention away from it.

Only a few months back, the league suspended Morant for only eight games for showing a gun at a night club on Instagram Live. Now, the star has done the same thing and only earned 25 games.

Morant has been the heart and soul of this young and entertaining Grizzlies roster for the first few years of his young career. Morant, 23, has one of the brightest futures in the NBA, and can’t even control his off-the-court actions. Even with his off-the-court trouble, Morant is still a superstar. This past season, Morant embarked on new career highs in rebounds and assists. The former Murray State guard averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 8.1 assists on 47 percent shooting from the field.

Morant recently released a statement on his suspension.

“I’ve had time to reflect and I realize how much hurt I’ve caused,” Morant said in the statement. “I want to apologize to the NBA, the Grizzlies, my teammates and the city of Memphis. To Adam Silver, Zach Kleiman and Robert Pera – who gave me the opportunity to be a professional athlete and have supported me – I’m sorry for the harm that I’ve done.” Via Adrian Wojnarowski.
