NBA PLAYOFF PREVIEW 2021: #4 Los Angeles Clippers Vs. #5 Dallas Mavericks

In this NBA Playoff Preview, the Clippers will try to go to the NBA Finals this year after disappointing last year in the Orlando Bubble. Playoff P, or Pandemic P last year, will also try to redeem himself. This might be the best year for the Clippers to go to the Finals with the Western Conference literally wide open and the Lakers are in the play-in. Who knows how long the Clippers Championship actually is. On the other side, the Mavericks are just now starting their championship window with their superstar Luka Doncic. However, in terms of potential, they have underwhelmed slightly. As mentioned though, the West is wide open and the Mavericks might go on a run. Who’s moving on to the next round? Let’s see why each team could go.

Why The Mavericks Will Win This Series 

The easy answer is Luka Doncic, but let’s go more in depth than that. Actually, let’s talk about depth. The Mavericks aren’t to be slept on as far as their depth goes. Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Richardson, and Dorian Finney-Smith is a formidable trio on the wings. They all can lock up someone while getting points on the other end. They might provide some trouble for Kawhi and PG with their defense. 

Let’s talk about the 2nd biggest reason that the Mavericks could win this series behind Luka Doncic: Kristaps Porzingis. While Kristaps has never been known for his defense, his offense may cause trouble for Serge Ibaka and Ivica Zubac. He will also be able to stretch the defense for those that can’t score that well from the outside. Players like Josh Richardson and Dorian Finney-Smith might see more opportunities in the paint. Whatever Kristaps lacks on the defensive end, he makes up offensively. It might be accurate to say that he is the Mavericks X-Factor for this series and maybe even the playoffs.

Why The Clippers Will Win This Series

In one word: Depth. We can talk all day about Kawhi’s impact or even Paul George’s impact. But, the depth of the Clippers will carry them. Also, last year, they had too many people that couldn’t distribute the ball. This year they have Rajon Rondo to facilitate the ball. That helps tremendously and makes the Clippers that much scarier. While their offense will be clicking and anyone can step up, the thing that puts the Clippers over the edge is their defense. Their defense is stout and suffocating. While Luka Doncic will do their thing, it’ll be how they contain everyone else that’ll be the determining factor for this team. Pandemic P won’t have a chance to ruin it for them offensively.

Paul George And The Clippers Are Out For Revenge This Season.

Prediction: Clippers in 5

Is this slightly disrespectful to the Mavericks? Yeah. Is it entirely possible? Absolutely. The Mavericks outside of Luka Doncic and Kristaps just can’t keep up with the Clippers. I wouldn’t be opposed to Clips in 6, but I feel like 6 games is just too common for my liking. I think the Clippers can handle this team in 5 games. I mean Clippers won’t sweep, and I don’t think anyone really has this team being beaten by the Mavericks. Luka will do his thing, but can the rest of his team be enough? Doubt it. The absolute limit is Clips in 6 and no one should oppose that.
