Nate McMillan Is Thinking About Quitting The Hawks?

Nate McMillan and Trae Young apparently hate each other. Word on the street is things have gotten so bad that McMillan is considering straight up quitting. With Young considering floating a trade request, it’s not hard to figure out by now that McMillan is on the hot seat as it is anyway.

 Shams Charania of The Athletic (No need to clink the link. I got you covered.) has reported that McMillan is considering resigning from his post as Hawks head coach.

The post by Shams essentially says that no resignation is imminent at this time. However, McMillan could decide at some point to walk away.

The Hawks are a bad basketball team right now. As we sit here today, the Hawks are 17-18 and the 9th seed in the Eastern Conference. Given how strong the East is, I don’t know exactly what the Hawks are planning on doing but I don’t see a scenario where the corner gets turned. Is this really on McMillan? Since taking over, he’s created a really positive defensive structure. Despite having cancerous Trae Young on the floor, the Hawks rank 12th in defensive rating.

At the end of the day, this is going to come down to Trae Young. If Young wants him out then McMillan is going to lose his job anyway. That’s usually how this works when it comes to NBA superstars. It would be a crazy move if McMillan got out in front of things.
