Vikings sign Jonathan Allen to a three-year deal

The Minnesota Vikings have signed free agent defensive tackle Jonathan Allen to a three-year, $60 million deal, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported Tuesday.

At the current time of this publishing, it is unknown how much money is guaranteed.

Allen was one of the best pass rushing defensive lineman available on the market. The Washington Commanders released him after eight seasons last week, saving over $16 million in space ahead of the 2025 NFL Season, which was the last year of Allen’s previous deal.

Since he was released, Allen’s signing does not impact take a compensatory pick away from the Vikings, which is big. As of right now, they will gain one comp pick (Sam Darnold; 3rd round) ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, according to Over The Cap. A lot can still change, however, as that remains fluid.

Allen, 30, was limited to just eight games last season with a pectoral injury. When healthy, he’s an impactful pass rusher who can slot in as the Vikings’ 3-tech. He made two Pro Bowls in 2021 and 2022, tallying 16.5 combined sacks with 26 tackles-for-loss in those two seasons.

In eight NFL seasons, the former first-round pick totaled 401 tackles, 60 tackles-for-loss–including 42 sacks–with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Now, he joins a pass rushing core with Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner.
