Free agent defensive tackle Milton Williams, one of the best players at his position in free agency, has signed a massive four-year deal with the New England Patriots that will be worth $26 million per year, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported Monday.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the average annual value, though the guarantee has still yet to be disclosed.
Williams was originally set to sign with Carolina after talks with the Panthers and Arizona Cardinals. But that was very short-lived. The soon-to-be 26-year-old totaled 24 tackles with a career-high five sacks and seven tackles-for-loss last year.
The Patriots have been very busy at the start of free agency, adding Carlton Davis, Morgan Moses and Harold Landry, among others. With the uncertainty of Christian Barmore’s future paired with Davon Godchaux’s departure, there was a desperate need to improve the defensive tackle position.

It will be interesting to see how Williams fits in with Landry and Keion White along the Patriots front-four, assuming Barmore’s not able to make a return (blood clots are no joke!). He won’t be surrounded by a dominant Eagles pass rush, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make an impact with more opportunity.
