Microsoft Talks ‘Call of Duty’ on Nintendo Switch; Why They Think it’s Possible

The road for Microsoft’s efforts to acquire Activision has been long and winding, with negotiations, meetings, deals and regulatory committees all being stops on Microsoft’s path. The appeasement and cooperation of all other parts of the industry are a priority as well, with Nintendo being one of the biggest pieces Microsoft must appease.

Console Issues

Nintendo comprises one of the largest parts of the global video game industry, making their own games, consoles and more. However, compared to the juggernauts of Microsoft and Sony and Xbox and PlayStation, Nintendo is a distant third. Nintendo’s consoles, while popular, are not as technically advanced as their competitors, with performance and especially graphics being less developed as a result.

But Microsoft wants to change this. They need to change it in order to make their 10-year deal with Nintendo work. A port of Call of Duty over to the Nintendo Switch faces all sorts of challenges, from hardware to software to everything in-between. Microsoft will have to find a balance between the Switch’s limited technological aspects and the modern boundaries of Call of Duty.

Still, the company is confident that they will be able to do this. In an official statement, Microsoft commented on the abilities of the Activision team and their efforts regarding ports in the past.

“The Activision development team have a long history of optimizing game performance for available hardware capabilities.”

How Long Will It Take?

Once, or if, the deal goes through, Microsoft will want to appease their partners as quickly as possible. An official Call of Duty port will likely be started as soon as Activision gets the go ahead. It’s unknown just now many people on Switch will want a port of Call of Duty. Regardless, Microsoft seems committed to keeping their word, a sure sign of their desire to see this deal with Activision through.
