Michigan Lands 2025 Four-Star Quarterback Carter Smith

Michigan Football has landed 2025 four-star quarterback Carter Smith. The four-star recruit announced his commitment on Twitter Tuesday.

Smith is playing his high school football at Bishop Verot in Fort Myers, Fla. Through 10 games of his junior season, he has thrown for 25 touchdowns and one interception while adding 16 rushing touchdowns. In his freshmen and sophomore seasons, he combined for 5,129 passing yards, 44 passing touchdowns, 1,273 rushing yards, 25 rushing touchdowns and nine interceptions.

At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Smith projects as a dual-threat quarterback who should be able to run an offense while adding value on the ground. Smith is the No. 213 player and No. 14 quarterback in 247Sports.com’s 2025 Composite Rankings.

Michigan landed Smith over Florida, Florida State and Miami, among others.

Michigan now has three four-star commits in its 2025 recruiting class, the others being corner Chris Ewald and defensive lineman Bobby Kanka.

The 2025 quarterback recruiting cycle is beginning to take shape. Smith’s commitment to Michigan provides some insight into the remainder of the quarterback class. Michigan was one of the biggest players in Bryce Underwood’s recruitment. Underwood, the top quarterback in the class, is a Michigan native who is being recruited by LSU, Michigan, Alabama, Colorado, Penn State and others.

Smith’s commitment to Michigan could serve as a signal that Michigan is falling behind in Underwood’s recruitment. At the moment, it seems like LSU is in the lead for his services.

While it is unlikely, Michigan could take two quarterbacks in 2025. The Wolverines took two quarterbacks, Jayden Dengal and Alex Orji, in 2022; however, that situation was drastically different as both were three-star recruits.

If Smith is Michigan’s only 2025 quarterback recruit, he will join 2024 four-star Jadyn Davis as the team’s future at the position.
