After the conclusion of the Giants Hard Knocks series, Bagdonas and I recorded a lengthy video about how embarrassing the front office in New York is. Do yourself a favor. Click that link, watch the video, and explain to me how Joe Schoen is qualified to run an NFL team. It turns out former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi agrees with me.
So much so that he thinks Schoen is offensive to the profession.
“It looks like if we were at some sports bar,” Lombardi said. “It looked like people were doing their fantasy drafts. That’s what it looked like. And that’s offensive to me who spent my career — that’s not how you do it. That’s not how it is done. That’s junk, it’s offensive. Look, I get John Mara. He’s gotta say what he said. But if he ends up having a top-three pick. I mean, are we sure we’re gonna do that again? I don’t know.”
How about the line Lombardi used? He quoted his former mentor Bill Walsh saying “the NFL isn’t a league of the best and brightest”. Have truer words ever been spoken? What Schoen has done with this Giants team is a total disgrace and random fans at a bar could probably do a better job.
It’s clear and obvious that Schoen really has no idea what he’s doing. It’s worse that he straight up disrespected the owner too along the way. It’s hard to envision him being back next season. Especially after everyone got to see the mess on National TV.
