Michael Gallup Retires From The NFL

Michael Gallup signed a deal with the Raiders this offseason. Las Vegas is going to end up getting zero games out of the former Mountain West standout at Colorado State. Gallup has informed the Raiders that he is retiring and has since been placed on the reserved/retired list.

This is the link to the news announcement by the Raiders. There’s not much there so probably don’t bother. It just simply states some roster moves with no text. This whole announcement has been pretty quite with not much coverage on either side.

Gallup, 28, was released by the Cowboys on March 15th in order to save $9.5 million in cap space. To sad part of all of this is that Gallup simply hasn’t been the same player since he tore his ACL at the end of the 2021 NFL Season. He had over 1,000 yards in 2019 but really peaked in his second season.

After participating in OTAs and minicamp for the Raiders this offseason, Vegas will need to find another option at receiver. The only thing about that is it also feels like a Davante Adams trade to the Jets could also be on the horizon. Get ready for Jakobi Meyers szn again fantasy managers! New shiny toy Brock Bowers might suddenly be very involved as a rookie too.

Gallup, a former third round pick in 2018, finishes his six-year career with 266 receptions for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns. Gallup spent all six years with the Cowboys in Dallas.
