Michael Bisping predicts Tom Aspinall would beat Jon Jones

Former UFC middleweight champion and commentator Michael Bisping believes rising heavyweight Tom Aspinall can dethrone heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Bisping, the first English-born UFC champion, has massive praise for his fellow countryman.

Bisping discussed how a potential Aspinall and Jones matchup would go in an interview with Sky Sports.

“(Jones is) one of the greatest of all time,” Bisping told Sky Sports’ Nik Hobbs. “I don’t think he can hold a candle to Tom. I think Tom will do the same thing to Jon Jones as what he did to Marcin Tybura. I don’t think there’s anyone that can stop Tom Aspinall. He’s that good. He’s that switched on.”

Aspinall is coming off an outstanding victory at UFC London. The English heavyweight returned from a massive knee injury and knocked out Marcin Tybura in less than two minutes. In that performance, Aspinall proved he was back and better than ever.

In his octagon interview with Bisping, Aspinall made his future clear. He wants to fight the winner of the UFC Paris main event between Ciryl Gane and Serghei Spivac, win that bout, and earn a title shot against Jones. Oh, and he believes he defeats Jones as well.

One thing is for certain, Bisping will always support other English MMA fighters. If a young English prospect gets the Bisping stamp of approval, it usually means good things for their career. This is a new level, however. Bisping stating Aspinall will defeat the greatest MMA fighter of all time is possibly the most he has ever hyped a fighter.

At the end of the day, it does not even matter if Bisping believes his take. In fairness, he probably does. Regardless, at the moment, the heavyweight title picture is messy and Bisping is pushing Aspinall’s name toward the title. That is one of the most valuable things someone can do for a fighter in Aspinall’s position.

Aspinall will need a few things to go his way if he wants to fight Jones. First, Jones will need to defend the title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. Furthermore, Jones will have to fight again. The popular belief is that Jones will retire if he beats Miocic. If those two things happen, Aspinall may be able to get a fight with Jones.
