Women’s Bantamweight is a weight class desperately in need of new talent. Now, there is a chance for a newcomer that can make waves in the division.
Dixon, who is known as “No Mess Mullins,” is not a young prospect but she has a great record in her short professional career. She has fought in Golden Ticket Fight Promotions and Ares FC. Dixon has been dominant in her five fights, with three wins by TKO/KO and two wins by unanimous decision.
These results are a welcome sight for women’s MMA as there are usually not a lot of finishes in the fights. It will be interesting to see if she can keep up her streak when she takes her next step to the UFC.
Dixon, 31, is not a young prospect, but she is a prospect nonetheless. She trains out of Coventry, England, and is affiliated with Lions Gym. Dixon was born in England so she will have the support of a country with great fight fans if she can find success.
Melissa Dixon will have her work cut out to reach a title shot. There are not any direct plans for who she will fight in her debut match. The current champion is Amanda Nunes, who most consider the UFC’s greatest women’s MMA fighter of all time. However, she is not invincible as she lost her belt to Juliana Peña in December 2021 at UFC 269. Nunes, like a true champion defeated, Peña in the rematch to reclaim her Bantamweight belt.
Now, this Saturday at UFC 289 Nunes will face Irene Aldana in a Bantamweight title fight, Aldana’s first chance at UFC gold. Also, this is Mexico’s chance to have four fighters with a belt.
Brandon Moreno holds the Flyweight strap, Alexa Grasso holds the women’s Flyweight title and Featherweight Yair Rodriguez currently has the Interim championship belt. The Nunes vs Aldana fight will be a fun matchup for the women’s Bantamweight Division, but maybe people will one day see Melissa Dixon in the same spot in the future.
