Mecole Hardman traded back to Kansas City Chiefs

The New York Jets are trading wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. The deal will see the Jets send Hardman and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Chiefs for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Hardman spent the first four years of his NFL career in Kansas City before signing a one-year, $4 million deal with the Jets in the offseason.

It should not come as a surprise that the Jets are moving on from Hardman. It was reported that the team was seeking a trade for the receiver. Hardman’s time in New York was uneventful. In five games, he logged one catch for six yards. It is clear that Hardman was not a good fit for the Jets.

As far as the Jets are concerned, the loss of Hardman will not hurt them as long as the receivers that were ahead of him on the depth chart stay healthy.

This trade may be an ideal landing spot for Hardman. Most importantly, he has already found success in Kansas City. In his four seasons with the team, Hardman has 151 catches for 2088 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Hardman should make an immediate impact with the Chiefs. In 2023, Kansas City has struggled mightily at the wide receiver position. At this point in time, Rashee Rice has been the team’s only quality option. Obviously, it helps that Travis Kelce, one of the best tight ends in the NFL, is leading the pass-catching unit. Still, the Chiefs needed help on the outside.

Mecole Hardman presents the Kansas City Chiefs with a quality pass-catching option without breaking the bank. A swap of that round picks is worth the risk if Hardman can return to top form.
