The Steelers just can’t quit Mason Rudolph. Years after foolishly calling Rudolph a first round quarterback prospect during the 2018 NFL Draft, they are bringing him back. Rudolph spent this past season with the Tennessee Titans but will return to Pittsburgh on a two year deal.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
The deal is as follows. Rudolph will cash in on a two-year worth $8 million total. The deal includes $4.5 million in guaranteed money. Apparently, Rudolph had other offers elsewhere including the option to return to Tennessee but really wanted to return to the Steel City.
The elephant in the room is that Justin Fields ditched them in free agency. Right now Rudolph would start if the season started today. Pittsburgh really has no other answer at the position. Russell Wilson is still out there but he’s totally washed and honestly… Rudolph realistically might be straight-up better than him right now in this current moment of time.
Rudolph, 29, appeared in eight games for the Titans in 2024 (five starts). During his lone season with the Titans, he completed 64%, of his throws with 1,530 passing yards and nine touchdowns. No question he was better than Will Levis a year ago. It’s a matter of what he showed last year is good enough for the Steelers. It may have to be as they really have no other option at the position unless Aaron Rodgers lands there in free agency.
