Maryland Athletics Launches Testudo Premium Lager

University of Maryland Athletics has teamed up with Baltimore-based UNION Craft Brewing to create Testudo Premium Lager, the official craft beer of the Maryland Terrapins. Cans feature a retro Testudo logo that was UMD’s primary from 1988-1996. Announcement of the collaboration came via the video below.

A percentage of the profits from the sale of the beer will go to the One Maryland Collective, UMD’s NIL collective. Following the official launch event UNION hosted in Baltimore today, Testudo Premium Lager is available for purchase in stores across the state. It will also be available at SECU Stadium for Maryland Football games and XFINITY Center for Maryland Basketball games.

UNION Craft Brewing was founded by Maryland alum Adam Benesch in 2011. In a statement on his brewery’s newest venture, Benesch said:

“We are Terps through and through and being able to bring this refreshing craft beer to each of them is a dream come true for me and all of UNION Craft Brewing. We couldn’t be more excited to spread the word of Testudo Premium Lager through the region with tremendous Maryland pride.”

Maryland Joins the NIL Beer Wave

Plenty of other schools have already released an NIL beer of their own. Country Roads Lager (West Virginia), Ames Lager (Iowa State), Cincy Light (Cincinnati), Swarm Ale (Iowa), and ‘Ol Crimson Legendary Lager (Washington State) are just a few examples of beers that support their respective college’s NIL collectives.
