With the All-Star break looming, the chances of the Miami Marlins dealing Jazz Chisholm Jr. are increasing, per reports.
Jazz Chisholm Jr., 26, has been with the Marlins for the entirety of his career thus far. Native to the Bahamas, Chisholm Jr. began his MLB journey in the pandemic shortened 2020 season. He has played second base for the majority of his career, but moved to center field last season. In Chisholm Jr.’s rookie year, he was only able to make 62 plate appearances for Miami, and thus could not find his rhythm. He ended the season slashing .161/.242/.321 with 9 hits.
Since that year, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been able to find his step, despite injuries shortening most of his seasons. He’s batted around .250 every season since, peaking at .254 in 2022. Despite only playing 60 games that year, Chisholm Jr. ended that season with 14 HR and 45 RBI, as well as his lone career All-Star selection (so far, at least). So far this season, Chisholm Jr. is hitting .255 with 10 HR and 40 RBI. He’s played in 87 of Miami’s 90 games, posting a .733 OPS.
The Marlins appear to be complete sellers as the July 30 trade deadline approaches. They DFA’d former batting champ Tim Anderson just a few days ago. Dead last in the NL East, they share the distinction of worst National League record with the Colorado Rockies at 32-58. In addition to Chisholm Jr., there are rumors Miami will also look to trade All-Star pitcher Tanner Scott. Rumored suitors for Chisholm Jr. include the Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Kansas City Royals, all teams eyeing playoff spots if things go their way.
