March Madness Tournament Bracket 2021: Chick’s Picks

This is my favorite time of the year as a basketball fan. We have the March Madness Tournament and about 2 weeks after, the NBA playoffs start. I am usually just an NBA guy, but a couple of years I started participating in making a bracket for the March Madness Tournament and it became one of my favorite things to do. I’d like to get into College Basketball more so I can cover it and have more of an idea of what I am talking about. One day I will, in the meantime, here is my out-the-ass picks about the tournament, you know, Chick’s Picks.

ROUND OF 64

WEST REGION

#1 Gonzaga vs. #16 Norfolk St./App St.

Prediction: #1 Gonzaga, doesn’t even matter.

#8 Oklahoma vs. #9 Missouri

Prediction: #8 Oklahoma, this was a toss up, flip a coin.

#5 Creighton vs. #12 UC Santa Barbara

Prediction: #5 Creighton, they played well in the Big East Conference Tournament, just not in the Final.

#4 Virginia vs. #13 Ohio

Prediction: #4 Virginia, I’m skeptical about Virginia but they’ll be fine here.

#6 USC vs. #11 Wichita State/Drake

Prediction: #11 Wichita State, I think they win both matchups. Always a stingy team in March.

#3 Kansas vs. #14 Eastern Washington

Prediction: #3 Kansas, no one cares what is on the East of Washington.

#7 Oregon vs. #10 VCU

Prediction: #7 Oregon, feel like they need more respect here.

#2 Iowa vs #15 Grand Canyon

Prediction: #2 Iowa, who cares about the Grand Canyon anyway?

EAST REGION

#1 Michigan vs #16 Mount St. Mary/Texas Southern

Prediction: #1 Michigan, for now…

#8 LSU vs #9 St. Bonaventure

Prediction: #8 LSU, criminally underrated, will surprise a lot of people.

#5 Colorado vs #12 Georgetown

Prediction: #12 Georgetown, the hot team stays hot and upsets a 5th seed.

#4 FSU vs #13 UNC Greensboro

Prediction: #4 FSU, Too good to be upset by a #13 seed.

#6 BYU vs #11 Michigan State/UCLA

Prediction: #11 Michigan State if they win their matchup, BYU if they don’t. But Tom Izzo leads them past both.

#3 Texas vs #14 Abilene Christian

Prediction: #3 Texas, Texas should thrash Abilene Christian.

#7 Connecticut vs #10 Maryland

Prediction: #10 Maryland, just for my main man Karl Heiser!

#2 Alabama vs #15 Iona

Prediction: #2 Alabama, Bama is scary this year.

SOUTH REGION

#1 Baylor vs #16 Hartford

Prediction: #1 Baylor, no contest.

#8 North Carolina vs #9 Wisconsin

Prediction: UGH #9 Wisconsin, IF I have to pick.

#5 Villanova vs #12 Winthrop

Prediction: #12 Winthrop, Villanova is lackluster and Winthrop is hot.

#4 Purdue vs #13 North Texas

Prediction: #4 Purdue, hard to bet against Purdue this early against a weak North Texas.

#6 Texas Tech vs #11 Utah State

Prediction: #6 Texas Tech, who cares about Utah State, honestly?

#3 Arkansas vs #14 Colgate

Prediction: #14 Colgate, BRING ON THE TOOTHPASTE UPSET.

#7 Florida vs #10 Virginia Tech

Prediction: #10 Virginia Tech? I think? Sure.

#2 Ohio State vs #15 Oral Roberts

Prediction: #2 Ohio State, because why is Robert getting oral?

MIDWEST REGION

#1 Illinois vs #16 Drexel

Prediction: #1 Illinois, despite the fact that Drexel have Dragons as their mascot.

#8 Loyola Chicago vs #9 Georgia Tech

Prediction: #9 Georgia Tech, because Loyola Chicago is too high.

#5 Tennessee vs #12 Oregon State

Prediction: #12 Oregon State, just because they won their conference tournament.

#4 Oklahoma State vs #13 Liberty

Prediction: #4 Oklahoma State. Cade Cunningham.

#6 San Diego State vs #11 Syracuse

Prediction: #11 Clemson, rock with the Orange

#3 West Virginia vs #14 Morehead State

Prediction: #3 West Virginia, because who the hell is Morehead State?

#7 Clemson vs #10 Rutgers

Prediction: #7 Clemson to lose in the next round.

#2 Houston vs #15 Cleveland State

Prediction: #2 Houston, not even close.

WEST REGION

#1 Gonzaga vs #8 Oklahoma

Prediction: #1 Gonzaga, Oklahoma just isn’t that good.

#5 Creighton vs #4 Virginia

Prediction: #4 Virginia, Creighton looked exposed in the Final of the Big East, Virginia is still safe for now.

#11 Wichita State vs #3 Kansas

Prediction: #11 Wichita State, Kansas has been eh, I’ll stick with Wichita for now.

#7 Oregon vs #2 Iowa

Prediction: #2 Iowa, Oregon not getting past this unfortunately.

EAST REGION

#1 Michigan vs #8 LSU

Prediction: #8 LSU, Michigan has been limping without Livers, LSU with the major upset.

#12 Georgetown vs #4 FSU

Prediction: #12 Georgetown, Patrick Ewing will keep this team hot for another major upset.

#11 Michigan State vs #3 Texas

Prediction: #3 Texas, this team is just too good that Tom Izzo just can’t coach his way past this.

#10 Maryland vs #2 Alabama

Prediction: #2 Alabama, Bama looks scary and poor Maryland is going to have to deal with it.

SOUTH REGION

#1 Baylor vs #9 Wisconsin

Prediction: #1 Baylor, they’re one of the best teams and Wisconsin got a bad draw.

#12 Winthrop vs #4 Purdue

Prediction: #4 Purdue will prevail, it might be closer than expected but Purdue is still solid.

#6 Texas Tech vs #14 Colgate

Prediction: #14 Colgate, another huge upset against a team I think is pretty weak.

#10 Virginia Tech vs #2 Ohio State

Prediction: #2 Ohio State, they might be the best team in the BIG 10 right now.

MIDWEST REGION

#1 Illinois vs #9 Georgia Tech

Prediction: #1 Illinois, I like Georgia Tech, but not this much to put them over #1 Illinois.

#12 Oregon State vs #4 Oklahoma State

Prediction: Cade Cunningham leads this team over Oregon State.

#11 Syracuse vs #3 WVU

Prediction: #3 WVU, sorry Liz, I have to roll with WVU here.

#7 Clemson vs #2 Houston

Prediction: #2 Houston got a lucky draw to get into the Sweet Sixteen easy.

SWEET SIXTEEN

Side note: Not going by region anymore, just the teams and predictions.

Prediction: #1 Gonzaga, Zags should be okay while #4 Virginia crumbles.

#11 Wichita State vs #2 Iowa

Prediction: #2 Iowa, Wichita’s run ends here but it’s always nice to have them.

#8 LSU vs #12 Georgetown

Prediction: #8 LSU, Georgetown’s steak runs cold while LSU just gets hotter.

#3 Texas vs #2 Alabama

Prediction: #2 Alabama, flip a coin, just enjoy this great game.

#1 Baylor vs #4 Purdue

Prediction: #1 Baylor, Purdue is tough, but Baylor is tougher.

#14 Colgate vs #2 Ohio State

Prediction: #2 Ohio State, our favorite toothpaste finally runs out, we’ll miss you.

#1 Illinois vs #4 Oklahoma State

Prediction: #1 Illinois, barely, I hope Illi proves me right in this one.

#3 WVU vs #2 Houston

Prediction: #3 WVU, Houston got lucky, their luck runs out here.

ELITE 8

#1 Gonzaga vs #2 Iowa

Prediction:v #1 Gonzaga, I think Iowa has a real shot, but Gonzaga is the safe pick here.

#8 LSU vs #2 Alabama

Prediction: #2 Alabama, LSU came far, but Bama has their number.

#1 Baylor vs #2 Ohio State

Prediction: #1 Baylor, I might pick Ohio State over any other team if it wasn’t Baylor.

#1 Illinois vs #3 WVU

Prediction: #1 Illinois, I’m not super high on WVU to put them past Illinois, so 3 #1 seeds in the Final Four.

FINAL FOUR

#1 Gonzaga vs #2 Alabama

Prediction: #1 Gonzaga, they might be too good for Bama, but that’s not a bad thing.

#1 Baylor vs #1 Illinois

Prediction: #1 Baylor, Illi got this far, but they will get no further.

CHAMPIONSHIP

#1 Baylor vs #1 Gonzaga

Prediction: #1 Baylor is the number 1 team in the country for me. They will win the NATTY.

There we have it. I picked Baylor as the winner of the 2021 March Madness Tournament, let’s see how close I actually got. Don’t worry, if I royally fuck up, I am going to do a second chance post where I make picks once the Sweet 16 is set. Maybe I will do better then, we’ll see.
