Marc-Andre Fleury Retires After Minnesota Wild Playoff Exit

The Vegas Golden Knights had one last opportunity to say goodbye to the goalie who led them to their first-ever Stanley Cup appearance in their inaugural season. The good news is that it came on the heels of eliminating the Minnesota Wild in six games during the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs. After the conclusion of the Wild’s season, Fleury is retiring from the NHL.

ESPN is such trash, and didn’t air the handshake line, but luckily there are plenty of clips online showing it.

“Still a little unbelievable that it’s over,” Fleury said Monday. “Twenty-some years went by so quick, right? I love my teammates. I love my team here, too. I thought the guys played so well in the playoffs and gave a good run. Vegas is one of the best teams in the league, and we all believed we could come back and have a chance there.

“You know it’s coming, right? I knew it’s coming, but it’s still sad when it happens for real.”

Do The Golden Knights Want To Bring Back Marc-Andre Fleury?

Fleury, 40, racked up 575 wins over the course of his career, which ranks second all-time behind Martin Brodeur (691). The accolades really speak for themselves when it comes to the former number one overall pick in 2003. Fleury won three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins and maintained success for a long time even after leaving the team that drafted him. He also won the Vezina trophy in 2021 with the Golden Knights.

Cheers to a hell of a career, Flower. By the way, it doesn’t sound like he’s totally done playing either. Fleury may be done playing at the NHL level, but he will still join Team Canada after 21 seasons at the NHL level.

“Just a little longer, right? I went home, my kids were crazy, I was like, ‘Geez, I’ve got to keep playing,'” Fleury said jokingly.
