Malik Beasley signs one-year deal with Pistons

Free agent guard Malik Beasley has signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic first reported Saturday.

This comes roughly 24 hours after the Detroit Pistons had reported interest in Beasley, who’s entering his ninth professional season.

Beasley signed a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks last offseason. He averaged 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds on 44.3 percent shooting, including 41.3 percent from 3-point range on 6.9 triple tries per game.

The organization has yet to make the signing official as of this publishing.

It marked the most efficient 3-point shooting season of his career, surpassing 39 percent only other time since 2018-19 (third season). Beasley has been a marksman throughout his NBA career and will add much-needed shooting to a Detroit Pistons squad–alongside offseason additions Tobias Harris and Tim Hardaway Jr.

Beasley has spent nine years with five different organizations, including the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 10.9 points on 42.5 percent shooting, 38.5 percent from 3-point range and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.

His $6 million contract could be very attractive for contenders looking to add shooting ahead of the upcoming trade deadline. That’s going to be his role alongside Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey: Space and sink!

The Pistons still have plenty of cap space with three open roster spots. Once the trade market starts percolating, I wouldn’t be surprise if they lump themselves into trades to acquire additional assets if they want to take any more mediocre contracts.
